Presenter: Yuri Dojc

Photographer, artist and witness, Yuri Dojc’s expansive practice encompasses many kinds of looking. His multi-lens trajectory has pivoted from an established commercial photog- raphy practice to his current gaze as an artful observer of the vestiges of history’s most vulnerable. Dojc has documented Slovakia's last living Holocaust survivors for Last Folio. An interna- tional success, this show travels extensively, with major exhibitions in Rome, Berlin, Moscow, New York, and Sao Paulo, among others. Dojc’s photographs are currently part of permanent collections at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, as well as the National Museum of Slovakia in Bratislava, to name a few. Now, Dojc is shifting his focus onto
North Is Freedom, a photographic essay celebrating the descendants of freedom-seekers who escaped slavery in the United States before the American Civil War. His presentation, sponsored by Fuji lm Canada, will include a number of portraits that will be exhibited in the coming year. The photographs are a representation of his shift from a commercial advertising practice to a ne arts practice. He is excited to share his experience with changing direction and showing that one can successfully reinvent themselves as fine artists.
